Forensic Accounting, Business Valuation, Financial Investigations
Cheryl's practice focuses on provision of professional services for matrimonial or business dissolutions, accounting standard of care and other settings where an accounting skill set will help the parties, attorneys or the Court better understand the financial facts behind a dispute. She has provided expert witness testimony in Virginia and the District of Columbia on topics including matrimonial forensic accounting, financial investigations, business valuation for privately owned businesses, fraud examination, income taxation and accounting standard of care.
She graduated from Widener University with a BS-Business Administration (Accounting) in 1987 and later earned a Master of Tax Law from Villanova University. She has been an actively licensed Certified Public Accountant since 1989. In 1991, Hyder began providing forensic accounting and related litigation support services relative to domestic and business disputes, while also serving as manager of her accounting firm's tax practice.
Over time, she narrowed her practice focus to conducting financial investigations and fraud examinations, valuing privately owned business interests and other matters, generally in a litigation context. She is a frequent speaker to peer, legal and academic communities on these topics; her leadership in these and related areas has been recognized internationally by her peers. Hyder's contributions to forensic accounting and fraud examination have been recognized by professional organizations including the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (for her overall efforts in fraud prevention and detection). Her 2011 article published in Fraud Magazine was voted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' membership as that year's most influential article, garnering her their distinguished Hubbard award. Separately, her contributions to a Fortune-100 company's efforts at firm-wide process redesign were identified by its Executive Board as integral to that program's successful firm-wide implementation.

She was previously been elected president of both the Northern Chapter of the Virginia Society of CPAs, the largest chapter in the Commonwealth, and the Metro-DC chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
